For The Love Of Dansko

Clogs, Boots, Sandals, Sneakers...

I've got all four.

Actually, I have four pairs of clogs, three sandals, two Mary Janes, one pair of sneakers, and one pair of boots from Dansko.

I wear my Danskos to work, to run errands, or when I go out socially.

Here's the pair I am currently wearing at work (we have a very casual dress code here).

I purchased my first pair of Mary Janes from Dansko in 2010, and made the colossal mistake of wearing them for the first time when I was in Las Vegas. Although the shoes are comfortable right out of the box, the amount of walking one does in Vegas is not conducive to properly breaking in new shoes. Lesson Learned.

On the other hand, I bought a pair of strappy wedge sandals (like the image below) just before heading to my cousin's wedding in 2022. The wedding was the first time I wore them, and they were so comfortable that I wore them all night long without any issues.

Ugly or Cute?

I know people think clogs are ugly, and I understand that perspective. I happen to like the look, especially with ankle-length pants. But, I am old enough now that I know I need to choose comfort and quality over solely (ha, accidental pun) choosing fashion.

My all-time favorite Dansko pair is my Professional Distressed Honey clog. Absolute comfort all day long. I wear mine without socks during the fall season, then add socks when the cold of winter kicks in.

Dansko History

I love the opening line of Dansko's "Our Story" page:

We were born in a barn.

The founder, Mary Cabot, an equine enthusiast, traveled to Denmark to buy a horse when she discovered the Danish clog. Donning a pair for herself, she was pleasantly surprised by the comfort the shoes provided after a long day of working in the barn, running errands, and being on her feet all day.

Deciding to bring some back with her to America, she shared the shoes with her employees, and they all agreed these clogs were worth the endeavor. In 1990, Dansko was founded, and it has continued to grow over the decades, adding more styles along the way.

As a woman-founded and women-led company, their celebration of women is a bandwagon I will always jump on. The same goes for brands that care about our environment and source materials responsibly, which Dansko also does.

Furthermore, for people with not-so-great feet, like myself (flat arches), Dansko shoes meet the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) seal of acceptance. They are a popular choice among medical professionals who are on their feet all day.

Pricing

Some styles start around $135 and can go well above $200 for others. I noticed a $15-25 jump in price once tariffs became a reality. Dansko offers payment plans, such as Afterpay, which allows you to make four payments over time instead of one lump sum at the time of purchase.

In Closing

If you have bad feet or spend a lot of time on your feet, a good shoe is imperative for comfort. I have had all of my Danskos for over a decade and will likely continue to add more to my closet. Afterall...
